Tree Trimming and Pruning

Treekeeper Tree Service offers tree trimming and pruning services that are a step above the rest. Anyone can take a trimming or pruning tool to a tree, but that doesn’t mean it’s done right. At Treekeeper Tree Service, we use our many years of experience to give your trees the right trimming and pruning they need, but with the expertise and care they deserve. Our certified arborists will climb your tree and expertly trim it in accordance with ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) standards.

This tree had to be removed due to the amount of damage by the split limb. Proper trimming and pruning of this limb prior to storm could have prevented this damage.

Heritage Trees are trees that have been formally recognized by City Council for their unique size, age, historical or horticultural significance. Once accepted by Council, Heritage Trees are designated with a small plaque so they can be identified by the public and listed in the Portland Heritage Tree database.

There are nearly 300 Heritage Trees throughout Portland, and new trees are added each year. Anyone can nominate a Heritage Tree! Heritage Trees are protected by City Code; once designated, no Heritage Tree can be removed without the consent of the Urban Forestry Commission and the Portland City Council.

Fruit Tree Pruning

It is recommended that fruit tree pruning begins with a first stage rehabilitation pruning in the winter months. Proper pruning over a specified period of time will ensure maximum fruit production.

I found Treekeeper Tree Service on line after talking to a few others. I knew immediately that Dan Sorenson knew exactly what he was talking about and understood exactly what I was looking for. They turned my sloppy and bushy old Japanese Maple into a work of art – and very quickly. They also left the job absolutely immaculate. I do recommend them and will call them in the future.

There are many reasons to prune a tree. Pruning will promote vigor and health, maintain a safer tree and can increase the beauty of the tree.

Dead Wood Removal is the trimming of dead, dying, diseased, crowded, weakly attached and low-vigor branches from the crown of a tree.

Crown Thinning is the selective trimming of branches to increase light penetration and air movement through the crown. Thinning opens the foliage of a tree, reduces weight on heavy limbs and helps retain the trees natural shape.

Elevating is the trimming of lower branches from a tree in order to provide clearance for buildings, vehicles and pedestrians.

Crown Reduction reduces the size of a tree, often for clearance for utility lines, or to maintain a trees size in the urban landscape. Reducing the height or spread of a tree is best accomplished by pruning back the leaders and branch terminals to lateral branches that are large enough to assume the terminal roles (at least one-third the diameter of the cut stem). Compared to topping, reduction helps maintain the form and structural integrity of the tree.

Young Tree Pruning also known as developmental pruning is performed for structural enhancement.  This important pruning helps to insure that new plantings have a desirable branch architecture and structural integrity. Proper pruning of young tees can reduce the potential of future storm damage and loss of valuable trees.

Topping Trees is not recommended and here is a link to a great article from the City of Portland to explain the harm and cost involved when trees are topped. http://www.portlandoregon.gov/trees/article/421041
